Anyone made a dedicated effort to "design" or science out, if you will, a combo that will improve fuel mileage for the V10? What I mean is maybe adding headers, custom tune, better intake and filter, injectors(?), higher grade fuel like plus, tire pressures in the "sweet spot", different t-stat, etc etc?
Might be a good idea to see if there is a way to spend some time on this the same as when you all took time to figure out how to cure the sway and steering and towing problems that are indiginous to these vehicles.
Might be worth while, considering fuel prices will be rising again?! Don't know if this has already been discussed ad nausem cause I'm new around here.
Even if my goal was 'shoot for the moon' 20% increase in mpg (for me that's 2mpg), the pay off isn't there IMO. I can get the equivalent of 20% by a couple less errands per week (take the bike).
I've messed with adding/reducing: weight, tire pressure, driving by vac. technique, gasoline grades, and haven't made a 20% dent - the V10 is surprisingly forgiving (or unforgiving). Driving off road and loaded in 4WD was the best way I had to reduce mpg. Driving down a long grade fully loaded (Tahoe to Sacramento) was the best way I had to improve mpg.
