97 Ranger 4L Bouncing Idle
When my truck comes up to temperature, the idle speed oscillates between 900 and 1300 rpm at about a 10 second rate. There is no CEL on. Listening under the hood and I hear the click of a solenoid activating in step with the idle bounces. There is no whistling or other odd noises coming from under the hood. No trouble starting or dieing otherwise. Any ideas out there?

Try to isolate the solenoid that is clicking. I'd start with the IAC (Idle Air Control). If that is the source of the clicking, try cleaning it with CRC MAF/IAC cleaner. Don't use carburetor cleaner.

Bingo! It is the compressor cycling and it stops when the Climate Control switch is set to OFF. Now what? It's not a normal situation I hope?
