Ive been debating on stacks or just something like a 3 1/2 or 4 inch straight pipe all the way back. I dont have a turbo so would the stacks be pointless?
Depends if you use your truck...as a truck, meaning you need as much bed space as possible, if not, then hell, stack it, turbo or not, no turbo will be louder than if it was turbo
Personally I'd never put stacks inside a truck bed, takes up to much cargo space. Run a straight to the back, or dump underneath behind the cab, or side pipe.
I haul my dirtbikes and such but its an 8ft bed i dont need all 8 feet usually. But then again i dont really want a big a$$ hole in my bed either. they look so sick though and it would sound so nice
I had a straight pipe, then a stack, then another stack, then another straight pipe. Straight pipe keeps sound in the cab very manageable but outside the truck, mainly on the passenger side, things tend to get pretty obnoxious especially at higher engine speeds (so let off the throttle while you're passing a LEO parked on the side of the road). Stack is louder in the cab but directs the sound upwards so the overall noise level around the truck is lower than a straight pipe. In other words, straight pipe will save your ears but may get you a ticket, a stack is less likely to get you pulled over but your eardrums may be ringing after a long drive on the interstate... Pick your poison, lol.
I ran a straight pipe for a couple days when my muffler rusted off and fell off...
I hated it, obnoxiously too loud when the engine is under load...sounds like a gas engine with a terrible knock.
At idle or slight acceleration...the thing sounded AWESOME though!! I REALLY loved it at that point....but then on the test drive...and I hit a hill, man the thing got LOUD!
But if you're into loud, try a straight pipe and dump it just behdin the cab. If it's too loud, go with a stack and get a muffler insert for it.
As I think more, my straight pipe was dumping just a little behind the cab...where most run it to the stock location. Maybe that's why they like straight pipes more...? Maybe the extra pipe length quites it down a little, it definetly is farther away from the cab though.
I just ran my exhaust when I did the turbo and I have it exiting out the back. I have the 3 inch DP, then 3.5 inch to the tailpipe with this muffler (it was $89 when I got it), the a 4 inch tailpipe from dynomax and it sounds nice. I'm thinking of one stack routed to the passenger side with the bends underneath so I don't lose bed space but I'm kinda thinking its pointless because I like how the truck sounds with the tailpipe. Just gotta get me a exhaust tip and I'll be done with it.
I was gonna stack the passenger side and fabricate the toolbox so it still fits tight against the back of the bed. But thats too much work just to have a stack and my ears hurt also.
i always thought and still do think that stacks look silly on a pickup. the only think i really do like about them is that youre not smoking the guy next to you out.
That's why I like side pipes, cause sometimes that guy next to you needs a good smoking out to know whose boss, and for everyone else to stop tailgating!
