No...
I realize I can just buy a new adapter harness and get the job done, I've just never seen anything like what is in my truck currently. I'll go take a pic...
Yup. Definitely looks modified. I would certainly just pull that off and buy the Wal-Mart harness and plug her right in. It'll come with what I think is 4 plugs. Obviously you will only need the two that are required for your year model. The power harness and the speaker wire harness (shown in your photos coming out of dash) Wire that new aftermarket harness into the Kenwood head unit and plug her up. Don't forget the blue remote wire to turn your factory amp on.
Well, again, you are wrong. The harness is most definitely different. I'll go take a pic if I have to. If you used the "standard" harness and your truck does in fact have the factory amp, you bypassed it.
Edit- look at the photo, the one on the left and the one on the right are matches to the connectors in my truck
Thank you king ******* know it all.
I got the same setup as you.
And no I didn't bypass it.
I have that connector as well.
Yes, the trucks with the factory CD player had the factory amp. My 97 did have a factory installed CD player.
Yes. This is the Premium Sound System wiring. Two harnesses from the dash. The wider flat harness plug is the power harness and the smaller more square harness is the speaker harness. The power harness comes out of the factory amp and the speaker harness goes into the amp on the other side and powers the speakers. If you purchase the Ford harness from Wal-Mart for this particular year model, both plugs are on it to plug your head unit in. And again, if you hook up the blue remote wire from the Wal-Mart harness to the blue remote wire on the head unit, everything works properly. Just do away with the harness between your head unit and the two harnesses coming from the dash and add the new (Wal-Mart) harness. That's all. If you DON'T have a blue remote wire on your head unit, let me know. Make sure to check the wiring chart for your head unit. It is a possibility the remote wire might not be blue. But it should.

You can still use this harness. Just cut the plug off to wire into Kenwood Head Unit. If the Kenwood has a plug coming from the wiring on the Head Unit, cut that sucker off too. You'll just have to know your color schemes. If they aren't labeled on the harness that is in between the truck and the head unit now, I recommend getting the new one. They are on there for ya. Then you just have to know the Kenwood Head Unit wire colors. I guess I'm understanding you correctly. You want to yank that head unit in the picture and put a newer one in this truck?

OK, I feel like a complete dummy... I'll have to look at my other harness when I get home, but the one currently wired to my Kenwood head unit has 2 different plugs on each harness. I'm betting I can switch which one I was using for the speakers to match the factory wiring in my 97. This is what I get for trying to put the CD player in after a long day in the heat and being frustrated...
I'll look at it again when I get home and post up tomorrow if it works.
