Spring DIY fix? What do u think
someone made there own DIY Mod. instead of getting the RAS
I had another post that I didn't search for where I actually built this DIY mod...here' some photos
The result?...well it didn't seem to work for me...BUT (big but)...I had my tire pressure pumped up too high and I think that it may have been messing up my experiment...so...I'm not sure if it does any good or not...in theory...it SHOULD but my theory (and Ben's) was never proven...and I've since used the U-clamps and other hardware on other projects...but as you can see...I've built/tried this.
Here's the post (it is locked/closed at this point) but it is 15 pages of my experiments...air bags included... http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fu...2.cfm#19952802 in the end I think I figured out how much tire pressure affects handling on these beasts...just jump to page 15 next to last post to see how it ends up...hehe
FYI...RV.net changed the picture formatting syntax so my embedded photos in that link are not showing...but they are the same as I just posted in this thread...
It truly is a learn as you go on this truck!!!
Joe.
Thanks Again
Dave
It's not the first time I've done that...I'm sure it won't be the last.

Glad I could help...
IMO...go with the RAS and make sure you also have a rear sway bar (stock OR Hellwig no difference IMO).
Also when you do go to the longer TT...you will notice the difference...that lever arm of the new TT is huge and the Ex does react to it...so...make sure your front end is also in good working order (ball joints and steering box to name two).
As far as a VPPP (virtual pivot point projection hitch) like the Arrow or 3P...they ARE worth the money IMO for a trailer this long behind an SUV like ours...there are just too many "small" things that Ford did that make this a "less than perfect" TV that is why we make these small mods like springs, RAS, sway bar, hitch, etc...also the wheelbase of the Ex is only 137"...a TT that heavy and long does enjoy an advantage under certain conditions...and those conditions are when we should set our rigs up for...not the "perfect" wind free sunny days...but the nasty windy days that we will encounter if we tow long and far enough...I realize not everyone tows all over the country like I do...and if I didn't...I would have thought much harder before going to the Arrow...but I can tell you the VPPP does perform as advertised!
Also don't forget the tire pressures...which I know you know after reading that marathon of a thread over on RV.net (hehe)...but our trucks are very sensitive to tire pressure in my experiences...that one **** I feel is the one most overlooked **** in tuning/taming our beasts...but it is a very inexpensive one to tune and many ignore it.
When you get the new TT if you have ANY questions at all...don't hesitate to ask or PM me...I have no issues helping where I can.
Also if you do decide to go with the ProPride...and have any questions let me know...I know Sean (owner of ProPride) and speak with him frequently...also I may have a discount coupon that might still be good for you to check on if and when you decide to purchase...so let me know thru a PM and I'll give it to you before you call...if you are interested of course.
Good luck to you...and I know you have been a member for a couple of months but WELCOME to FTE!...and do you have any pics of the 66' Eldorado?...I would love to see it!!!

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
The Eldo has been apart 3 years now. Complete resto, I'll never do that again LOL. Should have kept my 73 Eldo convertible, all I have left is to install the new convertible top. I'll look for pictures tonight.
