I just purchased a SCT XCal 2 that has never been used and came with the software. I am just trying to find some info on what i need to do first not to mess up my truck. Do i have to pay someone to create a tune for me or is there a way i can do it myself. I have a 99 F150 4x4 5.4L and i am just wanting a couple of tunes for economy and perfomance. I am considering selling it and just buying a tuner with preloaded tunes at this point.
You'll need to get someone to write you a couple of custom tunes. There is tune writing software out there, but unless you've had some instruction about it, I wouldn't do it yourself.
I would consider staying with custom tuning as more often then not economy and performance is typically better since the tune writer is able to better mate your truck with the tune instead of "one size fits all" type of tuning that comes with pre-loaded tunes. Ironically, some people either like or don't like pre-loaded tunes due to that very fact as well. Some tunes work well with some vehicles and act like crap with other vehicles.
ok, i have only messed with a diablo tuner i had for my mustang but it was preloaded tunes and was basic adjustment, this is a little advanced for me. i would like to have a tuner that i could adjust myself like tire size and gear ratios and so forth, but i like the datalogging of the xcal 2. does anyone got any suggestions of places to get some custom tunes for a decent price, im located in nc if that helps any
