Started noticing the other day that my truck was running really strong after towing a boat from knoxville to cincinatti. Unhooked the boat drove back home about 200 miles and lost about 3mpg from normal. Drove back to cincy and parked the truck for about 5 days. Hooked to a boat to head home and went up the cut in the hill about 60 mph. And Boom turbo hose at the intercooler comes off. Got to an exit and put it back on then made it 2 miles and it came off again. Repeated this twice then it came off at the turbo. Called some one to get the boat and drove it home empty no problems. I don't have a boost gauge but I'm sure it has to be overboosting. It is not chipped and I was only towing 6,000 lbs. Any ideas to what could be causing this?
You do have a boost gauge...what was it showing? You might have had the problem of oil being in the turbo hose and when it came off the first time, you didn't get it all cleaned out. It has been suggested that you get it all cleaned out (brake cleaner) and spray it inside with lady's hair spray , then reconnect and tighten the clamp to torque specs.....
As I stated above I don't have a boost gauge. I had the hoses off a few months ago and painted the pipes. When I reinstalled them I used some good cleaners and a product I use at work called power tune made by mercury marine. It makes it almost impossible to remove a rubber hose. I cleaned them with a degreaser yesterday when they were coming off making sure to get all the oil off.
Have you had the codes pulled to see if it set one? You do not HAVE to have a check engine light to have it set a code. I also thought that all the 6.0's had a boost gauge. In my 05, it is dead center low on the instrument panel.
04 doesn't have a gauge. Not checked any codes yet but the last time the hose blew it did turn on the cel. I unhooked the batteries for a minute and it went off.
Mine overboosts regularly. Usually crusing down the highway at 60mph the boost is about 5 lbs, but when it's sticking it will be at 10 or better, and top out at over 30. I'm pretty sure it's the turbo vanes sticking, and I'm going to take the turbo off and clean it in the near future. I guess it could also be the control valve mounted on the front of the turbo, but I want to clean the turbo anyways, it's cheaper. I have the latest flash which is supposed to sweep the vans to keep it from sticking, you could try that, but I have to admit, I've never seen any evidence of it sweeping the vanes, although it could be...(changes in exhaust sound, boost jumping up suddenly)

03 & 04 models don't have a boost gauge. Boost gauge showed up on the 05 and up models. Never understood not putting a boost gauge on an engine that has a variable geometry turbo. I bet a lot of HG issues could have been prevented by a simple boost gauge alerting the owner of a turbo issue.
