BB in the fuel pressure regulator

Ok, so I read that if you put a BB in the pressure regulator, it will up your fuel pressure.

1. Is it true
2. Are there any side effects
3. Would it be bad to put in two BB's

Welcome to FTE!!!
The BB in the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) will increase your fuel pressure. To answer your questions.

1. Is it true
YES
2. Are there any side effects
If you have a California Emmissions model, the BB will give it to much pressure and wear out your fuel pump prematurely. Cali models already have high enough pressure.
3. Would it be bad to put in two BB's
2 BB will make to much pressure and wear out the pump

I think no more than 60psi at the schrader valve.
More people will weigh in on this.

Yes it is true, Too much pressure - above lets say 70 psi - could cause side effects and two BB's might take it past that 70psi +/- level.
Try it and see, need to verify your pressure before and after. Plenty of examples in the forum. I have noticed a slightly quicker throttle response.

I would think that if one (1) "BB" won't bring you within operating range then your pump is PROBABLY on it's last legs and a replacement is looming in your future.

No problem. You have any other questions about your truck? Do you have any mods?

Before I put a new fuel pump in I was reading like 10 psi at the fpr with a harbor freight guage. Ive got a new pump on and my mileage has come up but I can't get a psi reading within normal limits. Granted I'm using a tire guage and plan to go get another actual fuel guage but if the results are not good what could be the culprit?

Its not usually the pump, or maybe.
All depends.

The main idea behind the BB mod, from my understanding, is that the spring has lost some of its spring, so your shimming it to bring it back into spec.
Not to fake the pump out.

50-70 Is a good range to be in.
More than 70 is a waste.

I dont think 2 BBs would even work. unless you could magicly make them stack on top of each other. like william said all your doing is lengthening the spring.

well, not lengthening. but causing it to have more resistance by compressing it.

You could stretch it, but you risk damaging the spring.

This is "Shimming the FPR" But...................check your pressure BEFORE you do it to ascertain if in fact you need to do this mod and them AFTER you shim it to once again check the pressure to make sure you are not too high.

Blew a fuel line?
Crazy. sounds like you had to high pressure.

65PSI is about the best for our trucks.
when you get over 70 you'll start floating the needles in the injectors.
