I am building a 1971 ford 429. I am getting some E7te heads to fuel inject it and i cant find how big the combustion chamber is. I also need help picking my pistons and cam to go with it. I want to run between 10-10.5:1 and i would like a pretty radical cam. any other part suggestions would be nice.
You'll probably want to keep the compression down around 9.5:1 to avoid any pre-detonation. Get a recurved Duraspark dist, have the heads ported (at least on the exhaust side), port matched intake, roller rocker valvetrain, etc. Why do you want fuel injection?
Lots of good 385 series info over on 460ford.com
HAHA, it is gonna get bad gas mileage anyways, fuel injection sounds a bit complicated when you got a lot of other stuff to do with that truck.
I hope I am not stealing the thread by asking, But how do you get the cab to frame bushing out of a 95'' f150? I have unbolted them and the bolts came right out, and then I jacked up the body (it came right up off the bushings), but the bushings are stuck in that plate of steel. I have tried prying, hammering, hammering with the crow bar and twisting the bushings...no use. Tips would be greatly appreciated. I am only asking this here because I cannot figure out the message board.
Oh comon, we are all talking about ford trucks here ya know? I thought you guys are ninja mechanics. A true ninja mechanic would of gave me good tips and advice without question. Besides, I am sure Croof is gonna want to know how to replace cab to frame bushings in his old truck.
I just want to fuel inject it because I have some heads all ready. I can't find any heads for cheap with a cumbustion chamber to get my compression to 10:1. Any ideas
I was wondering how a factory EFI for a 429/460 would work with a big cam. Arent the old 429SCJ flat top pistons going to hike it up about where it needs? I cant remember what the TRW # was, but I had em many years ago, and they were perdy. If you can pull it off, I think it would scream. Always good to hear a big V8 wind way up. As far as what cc the heads are, you'd have to do a pretty specific search, or take em to a machine shop. I'd guess they're very similar to the post 72 460s.
Not sure why you want a fuelie head, especially the E7's with the dinky intake valves. Not a good performance choice. If you are thinking about mpg's, you're building the wrong motor and installing it in the least aerodynamic vehicle....
Go to 460ford.com and do a little research.
Ok well how about a set of d3ve heads. are they any good. I hear a lot of good and bad. Were can I buy a set of d0ve or earlier heads if they are better.
The DOVE heads were the good heads, now there are so many better options. You will be happier in the long run if you buy American made.
My philosophy has been support the local business, so I let the machine shop sell me their 'in house brand' Pro Comp. They are good heads with good flow #'s, but they are not US made, so I catch a lot of flack from the other 460 guys.
John Kaase heads are the best.
