Last time I changed the pads it was ovious that I'll need new rotors next brake job. Does anyone know the good and not so good brands. I've heard some of them are pretty bad. Thanks.
The only ones I've ever installed were genuine Ford ones and also some cheap "Atlas" offshore rotors. The cheap rotors seem to warp pretty quickly. On an old beater they might be ok but otherwise I'd stick to Ford parts. You might find that the Ford rotors aren't as expensive as you'd think.
I'm sure someone here will have other opinions
Thanks for the reply. I'll call Ford and see what they want for them. I just saw an ad for front pads installed at Ford for 89 bucks. That's pretty much in line with the quickie brake shops. Maybe they want to get the business back.
I've heard there are aftermarket "slotted" rotors that are good for replacement parts.
I'm curious...how hard are these to replace? I know my '94 was a pain but when I changed the pads on this one it looked like the rotors come off pretty easy.
Is your truck a 4x2 or 4x4? If it's a 4x2 replacing the rotors is very similar to on a 94. If it's a 4x4 it's different...and easier.
The rotors just slide over the wheel studs after you remove the caliper bracket from the steering knuckle. There are just 2 bolts holding the caliper bracket on. Since you're replacing the rotors anyway it's no big deal if you have to beat on them to get the free from the hub
Sometimes they slide off easily, sometimes they take a bit of force.
