You need to put a pyro kit in and then guess and check with the pyro what your EGT's are. Do not let them get above 1000F at the manifold as the heat will damage the pistons.

Turning up the fuel on a N/A engine without a better exhaust setup for better flow is like playing with fire.
Install a pyrometer gauge, then start opening up the exhaust, then start experimenting with how much fuel you can supply.
Here, this is a pyro kit...and the one I think I'm going to install on my truck someday.
Auto Meter 2654 - Auto Meter Z-Series Analog Gauges - Overview - SummitRacing.com

For the sending unit/probe, you'll want to pull your exhaust manifold off the engine. Drill it out and tap for threads. Point that sucker right into the rear-most cylinder if you can. The closer you can get to the pistons, the more accurate your reading will be. 1200 degrees is the max you want to run before the pistons begin to melt.

The stock Y-pipe in the exhaust is beyond horrible.
6.9L And 7.3L Naturally Aspirated Diesel Y-Pipe Exhaust Modification .: Articles

Open up the exhaust as large as possible...you want that heat GONE with an N/A motor.
Then, open up the intake. These IDI's LOVE air, and LOTS of it.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...od-v2-1-a.html
Open up the grille so you can get more cold air directed into your intake.
The colder you can get your intake air, the lower your EGT's will be...and the more fuel you can supply the engine.

For more power on an N/A engine...more air, more fuel, WAY Faster and more exhaust flow out.

You don't have to take the manifold off. You can drill and tap it with the manifold right there on the engine. Taking it off would make it easier but its unnecessary.

My Y-pipe doesnt do what his does in the article. THey are 2.25" pipe off the manifold, but they both come together right at the pipe to the muffler, when i upgraded my exhaust to 3" i cut into where the two pipes came together and the hole i cut was about 2.5 inches long and 2 wide. I put my new exhaust pipe onto it and welded it together and it took about an hour to get done. The muffler was not a straight through but it was high flow. When i fired it up and started driving around, i noticed that the power increased when i started out in second. It increase a Little in Third and almost nothing in fourth. I did notice that it breaths a little easier now that i did that. I just need to figure out how to let her breath more.

when looking for more power, always start with a fresh tuned up engine:
How to tune up the IDI diesel every 100k for peak performance and economy.

after that, start with more air in,and more air out.
after that,a pyro and fuel.
