Angry Brake Problem

I have a 97 f150 with a reocurring brake problem. It all began when I had to replace the original rotors. The original rotors were rusted on and had to be beaten off at a dealership. I tried at home but was unsucessful. I was told that this was common to the model year. Ever since then, I had a "hopping" sensation when applying the brakes at low speeds. It seem to be more prevelent when I am going downhill. It does not feel like pulsation like when the rotors are warped. Since the original replacement, I have changed the rotors twice more and turned them numerous times. It seems that the problem solved itself with the changes, only to return within 3 months. The brake pads are never worn more than half way through when I turn the rotors. I adjust the rear drums regularly. I do tow regularly in the summer time and I have concerns stopping the trailer behind me. Should I try heavy duty rotors and pads? Can the rear drums be causing the problems? The calipers? Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

Brake Problem

If changing/turning rotors solve the problem for a while sounds like you need better quality/heavey duty ones.were all your replacements the same brand?

Thumbs up Brake Problem

the hub/ mounting surfaces are most likely warped or bent-new rotors will stay true for a small while, but the constant heat cycling will eventually cause the rotor to conform to the hub. also, double check that your not overtorqueing or enevenly torqueing the lugs-these new rotors just arent like the ones on grampa's '73- much thinner, to reduce unsprung weight and rotational mass. lastly, make sure that the rotors arent directional, IE specified as left or right side only-good luck!
