Thumbs up First towing test

I just had to share my first experience towing our 5th wheel with our new 2003 F350 V10 Crew Cab with 4.30 gears. Our 5th wheel weighs in at 10,400 lbs. wet. We previously towed it with our '93 Chev w/6.5 TD and 4.10 gears for 10 years. Well...while the Chev never let me down, there just "ain't no comparison". Anyone out in California knows about the Grapevine. It's a long 6% climb over the mountains to get to Los Angeles. When doing it in the Chev., it was 1st gear, 30 mph tops. With the new Ford, it's 3rd gear for quite a while, then 2nd, but with the rpm's this thing will turn, I was able to set the cruise control at 60 mph which yielded 4200 RPM, and held it for the entire 5 mile climb. Every big rig and RV I passed was given a Tim Allen grunt as we sailed by. This truck is a real pleasure to drive.

First towing test

Yes, some relatives of mine who are pleased as punch with their dodge cummins diesel seem to get really upset when we head out camping and I follow them with my own trailer in tow. They just can't stand it when I get right up on the bumper of their trailer doing 45 MPH over mountain passes.... they get even madder if I pass them, so I do every chance I get. And of course when we stop I always let them take off first so I can pass them again.

Most recent event was their lovely dodge overheating. They had to pull off on the highway to let it cool down. So I pulled in behind them and hung out with the A/C cranked up listening to some CD's. I just love it!
