82 F150 Issues

First off, anyone know where i can find a Vac diagram?

I have an 82 f150 Explorer with the 300 I6 and 4 speed manual.

The hood sticker is long gone.

Cannot find anything googling maybe you guys can help me out.

Secondly, My truck is getting something like 6 MPG.

My Exhaust reeks of Fuel, so im assuming i have a float stuck open.

My main problem is the carb no longer has a tag on it for me to know which rebuild kit to get to fix it up.

Any info would be great.

Have you gone to a site like autozone or something and looked up the carb kit for your truck? They will list what fits. They also probably sell complete carbs, and they might have pictures, so you could identify yours possibly from that.

People worry about the numbers on the tags, and true they are used for the individual settings of each carb, but the kit that they sell to fit your carb will be for lots of differently calibrated carbs, all in one box. You just need to get the general year correct and the type(carter, motorcraft, etc.) When you are done installing the kit, there will be lots of gaskets and parts left over in the kit for other carbs that you won't use.

You can also go to autozone, register, plug in your truck, go to "vehicle repair guides" click on I believe "emissions" and there will be about 100 different diagrams for vacuum lines. There will probably be about 3 different ones for your year and your engine.

I'd be willing to place money on the accel pump having a pin-hole in it. Very common issue with the 1bbl carb used on the 300. The way the accel pump has vacuum on the underside, a pin hole will let fuel drip thru and enter the engine, making it run overly rich.
Tyipcal symptoms include running rich, poor MPG, and hard starting when warm after sitting for a few minutes. Also, this tends to allow fuel to drip into the intake after the engine is shut down, and shows a slow stream of white-ish smoke drifting out the top of the carb (breather removed).

How would i diagnose a pin hole, and is it repairable or would the carb need to be replaced?

The autozone site had 80 and 84 diagrams, which would be more relevant?

Most of my lines are there, just chewed in half.. so i dont think i will have a very difficult time.

You need to take a survey of your components under the hood. The diagrams are roughly laid out like the locations under the hood. You could make a rough diagram of the components, and then go to the site and see what matches. Try to at least use the proper year if you can. Usually they have 3 main categories; California, Federal, and Canadian.
