2WD F100 Spindle question
It has been over a year and half and many miles since I repacked my front bearings. In doing so, I noticed a wear mark on the spindle that concerns me. It's where the the innner bearing's "bottom" side (or the vertical spindle side) comes in contact with the spindle. On the lower half of this circular region there's a groove worn into the spindle. I never noticed it the last time I had the rotors off. Anyone notice anything similar on thier 2WD? One of my inner bearings had some discoloring going on, I assumed it was heat and decided to replace the inner bearings, I left the races alone. Any ideas?

Just my two bits worth....anytime you replace the bearings, replace the races. The bearings and races get a wear pattern and the old races will usually eat up a new set of bearings in a hurry. Sounds to me like you need to replace the spindle if you've got that much wear going on, I have, when in a tight, used a good center punch to ....for lack of a better word, ding a pattern of punchs where the bearing rides, just to hold the race in place. This is only an emergency or stopgate measure, not intended to fix the problem only get by till a spindle can be swapped. A good weld shop could probably build the groove up and not ruin the temper, but once again, I'd replace the spindle. Later Whit
