Hey guys,
I'm having my local truck shop put 4.56 gears on my truck. What parts will be swapped out in this project besides gaskets and things like that? I know ring and pinion will be new, just wondering if there's anything else.
um, new fluid to. but thats it, unless you tell them you want the whole thing rebuilt, then you would get new bearings, crush sleeves, axle seals, clutch packs (if limited slip) and spider gears. but if its 4x4 you have to re-gear both diffs.
It is 4x4. My rear end is slipping so instead of just rebuilding that, I'm getting bigger gears. They are rebuilding both with nice rebuild kits. I know the kits have all the bearings, seals, etc. Not sure about the spiders though. I just wanted to buy the major parts myself instead of through the shop.
Were do you plan on driving that thing w/ 4.56 gears? Maybe i have it wrong but aren't 4.56 gears shorter than 4.10 gears? i dive 65-70mph alot and im at 2400 rpms and guzzling w/ my 460 ;-) just curious
I have a 93 F-150 302 w/ a 6" lift and 35 inch tires. 4.56 gears will handle the bigger tires better, make it easier to get through mud, and improve gas mileage.
