I am planning on rebuilding a 79 f-150 4x4 w/ 300-I6 and 3.50 gears. I plan on giving it a mild lift - 4" max, do you think it will turn 12.5's without a problem? (still debating on whether to keep the 300 - am kind of a 300 fan so it would be kind of cool to keep it and build it up a little) Thanks guys, this site kicks @$$
I put a 3" body lift on my F-150 and got 35x12.50x15 mud terrains with no rubbing at all now I also have 4" super lift. As for the motor I have a killer 400 in it lots and lots of torque. So go for it! Try www.rockymountainsusp.com and 4 wheel parts performance will price match them. That what I did.
Properly built, an I-6 can produce a lot of torque. Since your going to lift it, I doubt that top speed is a major concern. Build it well, and then after you've had it for a while, you can decide if it's what you want.
What trany are you running? I had a buddy ran 35's on an 83 F-150 with no problem with a 300 and a manual trans. This why I ask, but I would thimk about gears gears and more gears. I have the same 3:50 gears and I would love to have a set of 4:11's with a set of lockers. You can do it and you will notice power decrease. Also what tire are you running now.
bone stock now. switch between 235's and 30/9.5's. No lift. 4 speed (granny gear). Just starting to think about what I want. Will be a lot easier to put together from the ground up (when I get to that point, as much easier said then done).
With a 4 speed I would do it in a minute I would love to have a manual trans I would be running 38's or larger. I would say go for it. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=4290898583 These are pics of my truck. You have to reg to look at sight, but it don't cost nothing so take a look.
W/ a 300 and 3.50 gears I would stick w/ 33x12.50's. W/ a 4" lift you could run 35's but I don't think that str.-6 will have the gutts to turn them. You could do it but it will suck up alot of power.
It would have to do better than mine. I have an '81 with the stock 300, 35x12.5 Thornbirds - and only 3.00 gears. I go everywhere with that thing, and it does fine at the mud bogs. Not the best at going fast up steep grades, though.
