Take you key out, remove plastic housing from around PCM, make sure chip is seated and put a big ole piece of duct tape across it all then replace plastic.
How many bolts hold that plastic housing in? I loosened the two I can see and the pcm will move around but I can't seem to get it off the wall. I guess I really need it written out for me. Where is this 10mm bolt? Under the dash out on the outside of the pcm?
Thank you for the patience, it has been a while on this area of the truck.
Im baffled. I checked the number 30 fuse and replaced it with the other number 30 fuse in the box just to be safe.
On top of that I pulled the pcm and opened it up to get to the chip. I found that the plug from the switch had been pulled out of the chip. Does this cable snap in place or just freely sit in the chip? I put it back in and duck taped the pcm up with the chip flush against the pcm.
Turn the key and all looked well. I then cycled the key just a couple times to get it to work and even poked at the cable leaving from the pcm to the switch just to make sure all was well. Then it went back to the SES light again.
Before I even start fiddling with it tonight I was able to start it and move it into a better parking space before working on it. I can't stand electronic issues.
The cable should slide/snap on the chip, chip slides in the pcm. No need to remove or take pcm apart to get at the chip. You have got to have the keys out to prevent damage ro the pcm while messing.with chip. If cable is not staying on chip, contact Jody for options. The tape i mentioned is to help hold things in place.

I put down a piece of tape to help the cable stay in. However, if it should be clipping in then I might have a problem there. I might try taking the chip out and seeing if the problem goes away entirely.
Pulled the chip out this evening (without touching the 10mm on the outside, fewf!) and the truck seems fine. The check engine light stayed on while the truck ran again. I was able to pull the code this time and it is a PO603 which I think is a PCM related error no?
Going to leave the chip out and drive the truck to and from work for the rest of this week just to see if I have any issues without the chip. Also contacted Clay about having the chip, cable and switch looked over before I try reinstalling it.
No - just erase it. Pretty normal to see that code with a chip or programmer. But what Barry said was that code should not be setting off your SES light. What scanner are you using to read the codes?

Its a programmer from my 01 Mustang GT. Cannot remember the brand but like a Diablo hand held. Up until now that scanner has helped me pull codes before such as my injector misfire so I figured it sort of got the job done if nothing else.
I used it to clear the codes, so well see if a new one comes on tomorrow.
The only other code I have is the Air Intake Heater code which would make since it is disabled.
Well it sound like it reads your codes, what is puzzleing is the P0603 KAM and the P0541 Air intake heater codes are both "soft codes" and do not set off the SES light. So the next step is to find out what code is setting off your SES light. Could the scanner you are using not read all the diesel codes? I am not sure......

I am not sure either, I am just using it as the best means that I can afford/find.
Drove the truck today and didn't have any issues out of her at all. Going to have the chip looked at.
