How much paint?
So the question is how much paint would I need to buy?
The body is in very good condition for a 23 year old van. There is some minor surface rust where the paint has been chipped, etc. but no bubbles in the paint. The hood is the only body part that has rust and I know why because I caused it. I bought a used hood late last year to replace it and it will need to be painted to match. So how do you match faded gray? You don't! you repaint the whole vehicle. The repairs to the body should take no more then a day, sanding that beast will take a couple of days if not more.
I plan on sanding down the whole vehicle to the original factory top coat of paint. I think if I sand the factory top coat smooth enough I should only need to put on a coat of sealer and then the color coat? What do you think.
I plan on using an acrylic enamel with hardner. Since this is a old van I will
not do a clear coat. I'm not looking for a great paint job, just something that has some shine. Flat black is cool now but I don't think flat gray is?
As far as resale value, Ha! What do you think it's worth? To me quite a bit, but to someone looking to buy a van, no one going to want to buy a van this old.
I look at what it would cost me to replace, it not what it's worth! To find a van this big and with a body in this good of condition and that runs as well, I would have to pay from $6,000 to $8,000 or more.
