Bed opinion

My F1 is a 52, but it is by no means a 'stock' F1. So thusly I don't feel bound to stay within the limits of what
came on my truck or what is year appropriate.

Example, the bed. There's always been one thing about my yr version of the F1 that I kind of obsess over, Square bed pockets!
You may be saying, what?? But it just offends my eye when I'm looking at the truck as a whole.
There's not one (that I can think of) square or right-angle surface on that 5 year model run except the bed pockets on the 51-52.

So I'm looking for opinions, concerns, thoughts or fitment issues, on putting a 48 yr model bed on a 52.
I think the round and flowing bed pockets and the stamped area in the side of the box just looks more appropriate for the overall rounded theme of the F1.

The bed was the only thing on my truck that was toast when I got it, I currently have no bed or rear fenders.
Gotta get the whole thing + fenders so there's no issues there with my old fenders and 48 bed sides.

It's your truck, do what you think looks best to you.

I don't personally know about the wheel stance, wheel base, bed length, all that kind of thing, but you can make adjustments for all of that.

If you need to, you can close all the fender bolt holes and put the fender wherever it needs to go.

I've seen the older script tailgates on newer trucks, and a pretty good percentage of the 53-55 trucks have the 56 grilles, just because the shiny ones are more plentiful. So, why not a bed?

Build yor own. I had a sheet metal place bend up the side and front panels out of 16gge,then I welded 1" tube on the top. I used stake pockets for a 48 and the rear bed panel from a 48, I bought them from LMC. I too prefer the look of the curved stake pockets. I'm using a stock tailgate and hinges as well.
I get alot of ideas from this site, the members are great!

I share your feelings. I've always thought the look of the early bed was really classy and fit well with the truck. You certainly wouldn't be the first guy to make that change. One of our new members shared pics of his truck that he did exactly the same thing on, just a few days ago.

Since the early stake pockets are available, could you adapt them to your current bed? This wouldn't require a change of rear fenders. However, I do like the look of the early, raised panel bed sides.

If you use the earlier style bed remember that the fenders are different as well. A good compromise would be to do like rhopper suggested and go with the early stake pockets.

Remember a few years ago on the show Overhaulin? they took Foose's truck and overhauled it. Its a 56 and they used the curved stake pockets on it.

Here's a link to a good bed products place;
Mack Hils: Ford Stake Pockets

I'm with you, I prefer the earlier beds as well. I had a parts truck that had a great bed, perfect bed sides, etc but it was the later squared off bed. I kept my battered and beat 49 bed for the styling.

Good luck with it
