REPLACEMENT TIRE QUESTION
I currently have the 275 55 R20 Goodyear LS2's on my 2004 Ford Expedition XLT 4X4, and would like to replace them with the Nitto Terra Grappler 275 55 R20, and am wondering if they will rub because the Nitto,s are not rounded on the edges like the goodyear,s?

That size should be fine. I run 285/70R17 on my 03 without rubbing and it is bigger than 275/55R20. I know true dimensions vary by manufacturer, but since it's the same size and you don't have issues now, chances are really good you'll be fine.

I am just curious on how a 17 inch tire ( not even looking at the tire profile) is bigger than a 20 inch tire.

Google tire size calculator and plug in the numbers and you'll understand. My tire is taller and wider than the other one. It's not a 17 inch tire, it's a 17 inch rim. While 17 IS part of the equation to calculate the tire's size, it's not everything.

So what you are saying is that when you go get tires, you dont need to match the rim size to the tire size. I know about the tire equation, its just how you sounded, it was like you were saying a 15 inch tire could go on a 17 inch rim.

Whaaaaa?! 15 inch tire on a 17 inch rim? For someone who knows the tire equation, you totally missed the point of my post. I fully stated my size, compared to the size questioned, to show that I'm running a wider and taller tire with out issues. Soooo, something as simple as switching manufacturers, while maintaining the same current size (again, smaller than mine), there should be no issues.

Just to clear it up, your original post asks how a 17 inch tire is bigger than a 20 inch tire, that's why I sent you to the tire size calculator.

The wheel is 15,16,17,18,19 or 20 etc. inches in diameter, the TIRE size is entirely different and the last number in the TIRE size denotes the wheel diameter. The TIRE size, regardless of the wheel diameter, is the critical issue when trying to fit them in the wheel well without rubbing.

Seems to me, you were the only one confused. Bronco's post was perfectly clear.
