clunking still
Bought a 83 F350 manule lock out hubs awhile after I bought the truck I put it in 4 wheel drive and it made a clunking noise said no big deal front hubs are shot before long wheel drive quit working. Put in new hubs four wheel works again but I still have a clunking noise coming from the front end. but only when in four wheel drive. Did notice when I put new hubs on the shaft moved up and down a little don't know if this is the problem or not . Any help would be greatly apreciated. Let me say it is not a clunk clunk clunk but a clunk go alittle ways clunk go alittle ways clunk etc.

I also say it's a U-joint.
That wobble in the shaft can lead to excessive wear on the hubs and burn them out quick. Pull off the spindle and replace the bearing, they are only $10 per side.

My friend blew up his front locker, and it clunks every few feet, also the front wheels will not engage.
