I am trying to swap a C6 from a truck with a non slip yoke on the output shaft. I need to have a slip yoke on the output shaft. What do I have to do to convert it?
Yes, it came out of a monster truck that had a short shaft between the C6 and the air shifted transfer case. Is there any simple way to convert it to a slip yoke?
I honestly do not know. You could swap tailshafts but I think you might have to dismantle the transmission partially to do this. I had 3 C6's lying around once and every single one of them had a different tailshaft length. Someone has to know what would be involved with doing this.
This is what I figured out from a transmission manual I have. It says that there is a snap ring that holds the reverse ring gear to the output shaft. This seems to only be accesible from the pump side of the trannsmission. But it also says that flanged type output shafts mostly found in trucks do not have this snap ring. Other than that I do not see any other obstructions. You may be able to pull the governor off and get the tailshaft off of that transmission without pulling the pump and all of the planetary gears and clutch sets out. I suppose all you can do is try if you are up to it. Other than that you may or may not have to dismantle the other transmission to get the output shaft out but then you should be able to use the shaft housing as well. Good luck.
Next weekend, I hope to attempt to rectify the problem. I am first going to pull another C6 out of another vehicle and use it get the donor shaft and housing. Then I will attempt to pull mine apart and do the transplant.
They have to be disassembled. Even if the nonslip yoke type doesn't have the snap ring, the one your changing to will use it, so both trannies have to come apart.
