This steering wheel doesn't look like it's removable like other steering wheels I've removed/seen removed?
What do I use?
Story(**skip if you want**):
A couple of weeks ago, I was driving over to a fellow members(fixnair) house to ask for some help. On the way there I made a pretty sharp turn going too fast(last minute decision). I have no clue nor do I have ANY proof that this sharp turn caused what would happen next.
After taking the turn about 10-15 seconds down the road I see smoke right in front of me inside the cab, and immediately couldn't breath. I knew that smell.........Electrical fire.
I pulled the side as fast as I could and slammed on my breaks locking the tires up. Turned the truck off, and ran around to unhook the battery. No more burning.
It appeared to be coming from only two of the 5-6 wires going up the column and into the turning signal switch. But it also melted and burned the blinker canister, and attempted to melt the wires coming from/to it. However, the wires that are connected to the wires that burned didn't melt, it makes no sense. I unhooked the wires that seemed to have burned and eventually kept driving and have been for the last couple of weeks. No issues since.
I am now ready to start figuring out what exactly went wrong, why, and how to fix it. so I need to remove the steering wheel and start there. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC01763.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC01762.jpg
Nice pics but how about a pic of the steering wheel under the horn button ot top of the steering shaft. Does it not have a nut to hold it on and a couple of holes for a puller?
What vehicle are you working on and is it the original column?
It is simply a nut, but doesn't seem to have bolt holes, I'll look again. The horn setup hasn't been on this truck anytime in the last 30 years that I know of. I'll get a pic asap.
It is the original column on a '56 f100.
Thank you very much.
Some steering wheels have the holes for the puller and some don't. My 48 didn't have them either. I pounded the wheel into submission with a BFH. Needless to say it wasn't worth a poop after that....
