Hi guys, I've been searching but can't find anyone that has upgraded the 2003 XL model headlights to the newer style. It's got the older style sealed beams with the shroud around them...I can't even tell they are on at night time!
Is this possible without buying extra mounting hardware and will my wiring harness plug and play? Also, I'm not really interested in changing the grill if I can help it...
I upgraded my 99 lights to the 04 lights and kept my marker/blinker lights. I also had the shroud style you speak of. It is an easy swap out and the holes were all there. The lights you are looking at on e-bay should come with the clips to put the new lights in. You can ask the seller that question. It took me about half hour to swap them out. I kept the marker/blinker lights because I like the orange. You can see the final result in my signature!!
The factory harness will work. Don't buy pig tails! Follow the factory harness one foot down from where it plugs in the the headlight. Unclip the short harness, and the plug that's left is what plugs into the aero headlights. If you need mounting clips for the head lights go to your local auto parts store's "Help" products. They sell them.
What he said. Only my short wires were like 6 inches at best and are still in the truck as they have a plastic holder to the frame and I just left them there. I made my clips from the older body style ford 250 because they are long and easier to put on and off then the stockers. But the lights should come with the clips. Mine were from a wrecking yard and were laying in the back of a chevy truck! Hence the no clips.
