custom exhaust help/pointers

i have a 93' f150 4.9l 300 straight 6, 5 speed. I have been planning about making an exhaust system. not true dual, but true 6! i want to have six pipes to the back of my truck with them in firing order.

Any ideas on how to do this? like pipe diameter, and such. Will back pressure be a problem? I feel having all the pipes separated like this will sound awesome when down shifting and hearing the backfiring. aha

and im serious about doing this. i have all the time and decent money to do this and will def be on you tube when completed.

Thanks

.....might need one hell of a long *** heat shield.... would be interesting.. whan i had my 300 i used clifford headers. so it was like a v8 with one header to front 3 another to rear 3. then a magna flow 2 1/2 on eack side. then both connected to a dyno max something. was di/di but X'd inside muffler then dumped after rear axle.. sounded good

I don't think anyones ever do it ? I would do what Ron said with the split headers & duels , hard telling what kind of problems you might have performance wise ? , i would talk to a good exhaust expert first ....Lew

The issues I see off the top of my head are the amount of room needed under the truck and diameter of the pipe(s), and also issues with reversion in the exhaust flow. Not saying it isn't doable, but it will take some planning to get it done right.

There's a lot of info out there about exhaust pulse gas scavenging that says it would be terrible for performance.

Scratch that... Do it anyway, I want to hear it. I say use the same diameter as a header all the way back.

Where to put the O2 sensor is the first thing that comes to mind. It's not going to be ideal if you meter just one cyl.

I'm into old SOHC Honda CB 4cyl bikes and the second thing that comes to mind is that every one of those bikes run better with a 4 -> 1 exhaust then 4 individual pipes.

So if your goal is performance then I would run a clifford 6-> 2 with dual pipes. They sound really nice too. They're unique, not like a straight six, not like a v6 and not like a v8... Kind of a cross between all three but not...

For packaging I would keep the pipe diameter small the whole way back, maybe 1-1/2" then you can go to 2" for the tips for looks. I would probably bundle them in an oval shape going back. The bundle would be like 3x6 or so. Then fan them out at the back. Might have to loose the spare tire as well depending on how you wanted them to exit.

now if your gonna do it with a v8, it should be a 2wd truck. transfer case would get in the way.
and im gonna put all the pipes in firing order. it should be awesome!!

that would look like the "spaghetti" headers i scene on a project car on 2 guys garage episode with the new 5.0 coyote. but for the best "show" for the pipes that exit in firing order would be flame throwers....BAD @$$
