So I searched....and I think I am doing the unthinkable. I want to swap a NP435 for a c6. I have found a extended cab 79, but it has a manual tranny. I need my wife to be able to drive, and it would be easier to swap trannys than teach her to drive a stick. Has anyone done it and what is involved? I have a 79 F-250 with a c6 to use as a parts truck already, I just want the extra space for the kids. the ex-cab is an F-150, but I am not sure that matters, because it has the same engine and t-case as my F-250.
the crazy things people do for love lol, i love shakin the shifter but i'm lucky enough to have a girl that actually had to teach me to drive stick. if i remember correctly you need the trans (duh), column, brake and clutch petals, linkage from pedal to clutch and column to trans, flywheel, clutch, and probably the crossmember. i'm not positive but maybe the piece of the floor is bolted on and you can swap em over or just weld up the hole. good luck, your wife is lucky i just wouldn't let her drive
no one could blame ya carny, me and my brother taught two of our sisters in my truck. the youngest one wouldn't give it gas and when she felt the clutch starting to touch she pulled her foot back so fast i thought it was gonna stick up her butt. by god she learned within the hour. anyone can learn. hell i learned!
should be a fairly easy swap.I did it to my truck when I was mudding it alot.the only "hard"part is figuring out a shifter set up and dealing with the peddles.I left my clutch peddel in the truck. Then I found a floor shifter to go where the stock 4speed shifter was,I believe it was a aerostar shifter.I just bent a little more radius in it to reach back further.
Ok....I give up. Now the wife wants to learn to drive it with the manual tranny....so it looks like we are staying with the 435. I give up on trying to be nice to her.
Be thankful your wife is willing to learn. My dad lost his 1970 SS Nova because my mom wouldn't learn to drive a 4spd. He ended up with a 1979 Toyota pickup, automatic.
man, why is it everyone that wants to do that swap lives in a different state. ive got a c6, and everything to go with it including two colums, i would gladly trade.
Its not a bad swap, I've done it twice the other way around by starting with a c6 and going to the 4 gear... but you can use the same cross member, hang the different pedals which is just 4 bolts in the fire wall... put the automatic column in it (which may lead to modification of the steering shaft), put the automatic shifting linkage all together, hooking up the tranny lines to the radiator, and switch the floor pan... but hopefully she will learn fast! Good luck!
