Well,I was throwing some salt out on the hill tonight and puting the truck in park then in reverse then in park so on so forth...then I finished when I reached the middle of the hill and proceeded to place my truck in "D" drive and go back up the hill. My truck went backwords! I placed in "2" no good back to drive no good I placed in "1" and went up the hill!!! so when I reached the top on level ground I tried "D" again with no success? so I pulled in the drive in "1" and parked her and came in the house and started powting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I am on here to ask all the questions I can about this. I have heard that it is possible it could be a few things other than the tranny and I'll mention the ones I know of to look for and maybe someone else can give me some other advice? Electronic control on the side of the tranny? Fluid low? Torque converter? valve body? total transmission? all help would be appriciative!!! P.S. there were NO signs that it was weak or anything??? thanks gang
Does putting the shifter in the neutral position put the trans in neutral? Maybe switching back and forth those few times knocked the shifter out of adjustment?
VERY CAREFULLY look under the truck and ensure that the shift mechanism is moving when you move the shifter. You could have slipped the cable connection.
Lets hope it is just a linkage issue.... I get my truck back on Monday with a new tranny.
I had the exact same symptoms. One minute wokring fine, the next, nothing but 1st and reverse. No grinding, crunching or anything. Just suddenly no D or 3.
When the shop pulled the magnet from the tranny pan...he said it looked like a chia pet.
