poor heat output

I was driving home this afternoon, when all of a sudden, my windshield fogged up and fumes in the cab. obviously heater core. replaced it. only thing is, I can't seem to get much flow from any of my vents or defrost, or anything. the air is plenty warm, it just doesn't seem to want to blow any harder than a low setting, and since my door seals/window seals are shot, it gets friggen' cold going down the highway!! I just thought I'd see if anyone had any tips or suggestions before I start tearing things apart. Thanks guys, with all your help I'm slowly becoming a mechanic qualified to work on any 84 f150. lol

You have low air flow after the heater core change out? Or you have always had low air flow?

What about the resistor for the fan. Sometimes leaves and crud gets caught right next to the resistor and can create a smoke smell. What kind of fumes comes through the vents?

bad blower motor? voltage to the resistor for the motor okay? voltage coming from the resistor to the motor okay?

these are quick things I'd check on my truck as it doesnt cost anything but a few minutes and can tell you a lot about the components in question.

ok, so I cleaned out the cavity that the blower motor goes in, full of leaves, still no airflow. went and purchased new blower motor and in stalled it, still no airflow. I'm thinkin' what the @$#% could be wrong here!!? So after double checking to make sure I hooked everything back up correctly it dawned on me, check the fuse. sometimes the solution is so simple that I don't even think about till I've already replaced things, so now I've got a brand new blower motor that blows enough heat to cook you if'n you ain't careful, live and learn.

I recommend you remove the kick panels underneath the dash.

If you have Factory A/C there will be two inspection plates, one on each side. Remove the plates and reach down and dig out all the leaves and crud out of there as well.

If your truck has a standard heater or dealer A/C, you will have two vents in place of the inspection plates. Remove the vents and dig out the crud, etc...

The space behind the inspection plates or vents is also part of your a/c or heater ductwork from the cowl. Removing the debris will help with air flow here as well as keep the floor and side of the cab from rotting.
