Chrome rear bumper

Well after searching for the brackets to mount the smooth rear bumper on my 67 I found a bumper with brackets today. I bolted the bumper up to the frame and tried two possible locations that fit the predrilled holes in the frame. It looks like it sticks out past the bed too much. It cant' go in any farther without causing clearence problems on the ends against the bed ends, but there is an odd gap in the middle. Is there supposed to be a filler panel between the body and bumper similar to the front bumper ? If so where can I get one. Thanks for the info.

That's why I pulled my chrome bumper off my 69 and went with a smooth roll pan; it just didn't fit the look of my truck. The chrome bumper does have a gap between it and the body and there is no filler panel used. Maybe if your's came with a step bumper from the factory the holes are drilled back further on the frame causing the chrome one to set out more; I'm just guessing and not sure if this may be your problem.

Well the brackets can,t go any farther foward because they will hit the spring shackle mount. I didn't remember the bumpers fitting that way.

The bumber sticks out so the if you are (touch bumping) a loading area you don't scratch the sheet metal.

Just my 2 cents here...

I recently added this style bumper to my '67. I thought the gap a little odd too, but I like it now. I think if you add a filler panel, you may be sorry.

A filler panel will close off any access that you have of hosing the inside of the bumper down. I know it might seem kind of odd, but your rear wheels throw a lot of mud and in my case rock salt up on the bumper. It gives you access to rinse everything clean.

Just a little helpful hint.

Ken

PS--I have a 2nd brand new bumper if anyone is looking for one!!!
