Well...... I've got those nice locking gas caps on my pickup. Now if I only knew where I misplaced (not lost) those keys!!! Hard to fill up when ya can't get the gas caps off..... and it's hard to get very far at all when you've got a 460 and can't fill up.... hmmmmm
AS a certified locksmith I can tell you that you can go to any major lock shop and get a master pick for these or.Or they can do it for a couple of bucksand make you a new key
Its two degrees below zero out there but heres what I did.The avegage key for those style caps are 3/4 of an inch long by a 16th wide and 1/4 inch tall. These locks are simple they have two pins inside.I used a piece of metal 1 inch long by a 16th width and a 1/4 or 1/8 inch tall slightly wiggle tis piece of metal up and down inside the lock slightly turning the cap the trick is not to twist or turn just a little pressure.U can use a skinny nail file off of some clippres maybe a survival type knife of I you begin to get desperate undue the inner hose inside the wheel well and add gas and worry about it later. Also I have seen the pick keys illegaly sold at numerous auto parts store in there catalogs. Here in NY state its National or Action.Ford dealers to can call around..HTPU
I make my own key rakes out of old broken hacksaw blades and I make the drag out of thin SS sheet. It works for the work I need to do around the house when I misplace a padlock or gas cap key etc. It take a little skill tho and a visualization of what you are trying to do inside the lock.
Happy Monday everyone.
What a coincidence, I was just going to post with the same question. I guess if it's seized inside the only option is to pry it off with the screw driver? Biggest hazard is scratching the paint I assume?
Well I knew that the best way to find my misplaced keys was to do irrepairable damage to at least one of my gas caps. I found the best way to remove the gas cap without causing damage to the pickup was by drilling the lock out. So...... now I have one trashed gas cap and the key to the other. Thanks for the pm offer Mil1ion... but I'm gonna try to find one to match my key around here... since I found it this morning
