My son and I were talking last night about a '77 4wd dentside he found sitting next to a barn out the in the country the other day. He says the owner only wants $500 and claims the truck still runs. My son doesn't know enough about engines to know which one is in this truck. I am going to go with him to check it out this weekend. I like my '88 Chevy, but I miss having a dentside. I'm hoping the '77 doesn't have too much rust on it. If not, that dude is comin home with me!!!
Very cool! Bring a camera so we can see it. A father/son team just bought my old '79 4x4 for a fixer upper project for the sons 16th birthday later in the spring. (my truck wasn't that bad) Good luck. I hope you find something cool.
We've talked about finding either an old Bronco or F-150 4wd to fix up for a few years now. I can't get something that needs too much work because I don't have a garage. For $500 I am not expecting miracles, but as long as it doesn't have see-through floors or some other drastic rust issues, I don't mind tinkering with it in the yard to get it running right. Carb engines are simple enough to work on that I don't mind doing it out in the open.
Here's our "shop" when we were in Iraq. Out in the elements in 130+ degrees in the summer, 20 in the winter, snow, rain, dust storms, you name it. My point being, it could always be worse. We did some major stuff out in that gravel, too.
Funny you should mention that. A couple of weeks ago I was checking out tents at a military surplus site. They had those big motor pool type garage tents there, and I was thinking how getting one of those might be a good way of getting a garage without having to have one built for however many tens of thousands of dollars they cost these days.

Looks like Liberty to me............ Am I right? I spent 5 years wrenching over there, Mosul, Victory and FOB Shield. Were you civilian or military?
I wonder how well these things stand up to snow. I don't know anything about them. I would think that the canvas would have to be taken down in the winter time, but then I wonder what the military does when they are set up in areas where it snows.
