Stuck manifold need help!

Hey y'all

Went to put my new setup on today and was able to take off the hoses and carb no problem. Manifold bolts came out easy too. But the manifold decides it wants to stay put and watch me try to pry it off. I spent two hours cursing every word I knew and some new ones I made up and still nothing. It's covered in filth and now it's on my **** list.

Anyone have ideas how to get it off so I can enjoy hearing her purr??

Check and make sure all the bolts are out, then check and make sure all the bolts are out, then when you are done with that check and make sure all the bolts are out. I know it sounds silly but ive somehow overlooked bolts like this myself. If all the bolts are out it shouldnt take an awful lot of pressure to pop it off. Be careful about driving something under it so you dont mess up any gasket surfaces

To be honest I only looked a few times, there is so much dirt and grime on here I could be missing 20 of them ( maybe one or two) but I'm going to scrape off this gunk on friday when have more time and light. Sucks not having a garage to do this work in, using a storage yard is ghetto but If i can do lost of work there, I really could care less, one day I'll have a garage.

Once I complete looking for more bolts I'll hopefully have it off.

I did manage to pull off the valve covers today; What a gross site, I need to change this oil and let it run for awhile to get this gunk removed it was gross.

As mentioned above I wouldn't pry anything under it, try tapping it with a rubber hammer you could also put a pipe in the radiator hose neck and try to lift it while tapping it; I'm guessing you are not going to need the themostat housing.

The engine is mickey mouse wired as my old man would call it. Just a bunch of splicing here and there so I doubt any of the gauges work correctly in the inside. That's another weekend project, I plan to buy a whole wiring harness once I have the front clip off and rear bed along with engine and trans, maybe once i come back and have time

Mine was the same way, or worse. Even though it had the original engine, it had been cut on and messed up pretty bad.

I just cut the wiring out of my way as it was disassembled, and will buy the EZWiring "mini 20" kit when I put the thing back together.

Yeah, I thought it was almost too cheap. I searched around and they got good reviews on the HAMB and Stangnet.

There is an article in the August 2009 Rod and Custom. It pretty much lays out what is involved installing one of their kits.

I only asked cause the manifold on some engines is under the edge of the heads. But not 289/302's. You must have a bolt or two that needs to come out. I've never had to pry a 302 intake off. A po might have used a lot of RTV to stop a coolant leak because it's a wet manifold but otherwise they lift off easy.

Take a close look at Sam's picture... and I think he meant 4 go into the head and 4 go into the block on each side : )

Howdy, look at your new manifold, see where all the bolts are, compare this to the old manifold to see where they are supposed to be. If you're double certain that you have them all out, its likely been put on with gasket cement, try sneaking a small chisel or screwdriver between the head and manifold and give it a rap.
