WTF....I literally just got my truck out of the shop (new hpop, a sensor, etc.) and I get it home and put the plow on her. I start plowing my driveways and kinda get stuck. Have to really get on her to get out and I back into a snow bank and the ABS light goes off.....HMMMMMM... I keep plowing, thinking some snow got packed into the sensor, and then about 20 minutes later.......CRAP.....NO BRAKES! I get out and check the master cylinder and sure and chit...its empty I, for the life of me, cannot believe this......hope its just a blown hose....too dark to tell and I finished by using the plow as my brakes........
ABS light went OFF? Previously it was on? Or by "goes off", you mean it went on?
Can you elaborate on "no brakes"? Pedal went to the floor? Or hard pedal? Did the red BRAKE (!) warning light go on? Does it work? (Does it light up with the parking brake, for example?) Any line, hard or soft, could be blown, but if you're plowing, prime suspect would be one of the soft lines (one to each front caliper, one between the frame line and the "tee" on the axle in the rear). Oh, you mentioned backing into a snowbank; that rear soft line is the first one to check. The hard line going across the axle from the tee to the right-rear is kinda vulnerable, too.
Do you feel ANY braking? If it's a rear line that went, you should still feel something from the front brakes.
BTW, there is no stand-alone ABS sensor. ABS is sensed by the vehicle speed sensor in the pumpkin. No way snow can get into it.
I gotta know, what sensor was replaced in the shop along with the hpop? HPOP's don't just quit, that sensor could have been your only problem. Was it IPR?
Can't help you much on the brakes but check it out in the daylight. (Like you weren't gonna do that)
the ebp sensor was replaced, not the ipr. As for the brakes, the rear line rusted out along side the front tank in the frame rail. Bought the good stuff and fabed a new line. Also found that the line to the right rear wheel, just above the rear meatball, was rusted out as well.....so spent the day making new lines and replacing the hoses...up and running and waiting the the next 5-10 inches of snow forecasted for Friday.
My bad...the brake light was also on...actually, it came on a few weeeks ago....The fluid was full, checked the electrical connections and nothing. THe light sometimes flickers off and on and actually on the way home from the shop, the brake light went off (I did not mention this to the shop) I noticed that the after market vac pump is making a funny sound and that the small round metal cap on top has come off. I am going to change this and see what happens.....
