Just changed the PCV valve

What a PITA!
I've never changed one on an EFI engine before. With all the older vehicles I've had, all I had to do was pull the old one out of the valve cover and put the new one in. These things are buried back were you almost can't even reach it. What a stupid place to put it.

Just changed the PCV valve

I just changed mine yesterday as well. It's on the passenger valve cover towards the rear (I'm guessing a 351 is the same way). I just reached back and pulled it out, then pulled the hose around so I could change the valve easier. Be careful of the vacuum lines back there; they can be brittle.

I had to stand on a chair (one downside of having a lifted truck) and reach around everything with my left hand so I could hold it while I loosened it with my right hand. I unhooked the hose so I could move it around a little. My problem was the hose clamp that held it in was tight. The area is so cluttered I couldn't get a screwdriver to it, so I had to use a small (5/16 I think) wrench to loosen the clamp. Then, the thing was stuck in the hose. Probably never been changed before. As mentioned above, there are all kinds of hoses back there that you have to be very careful with.

Also, I changed the serpentine belt while I was messing around. The old one, which was probably original as well, was looking kinda dry and cracked. I would like to sing the praises of whoever came up with this setup. No more prying on the alternator with a crowbar to hold the belt tight while you tighten up the bolts. I know, people complain about the "one belt breaks and everything stops" issue. I say, it's so easy to change these that it should never get to the point that it does break.

Be careful if you swing that hose around. I bought a truck from somebody that did the same thing and he ended up unseating the hose from the grommet in the valve cover. That is the way I am running right now. To get to it, the intake needs to come off.

If it had hose clamp someone added it. I've done my 94 5.0 many times it's not that bad ya just gotta reach in and work it slow I wasn't near as bad as my 90 5.0 stang was.

Hey! I know they are in an awkward location but I have had no problems pulling mine out. I also blocked off the original vacuum barb on the back of the intake manifold and re routed the PCV to the center of the manifold where the vacuum tree is. This cured a problem I had with a missfire at speed while going uphills. My truck isn't lifted but does have 31s on it.

Remove the intake manifold to replace a PCV valve? On a 5.0?? I must be on a different planet. All I needed was a milk crate to stand on . Darned thing just pulled out as easy as pie.

Not to replace the PCV valve. I said the guy that had the truck before me twisted the hose around from the back and he ended up unseating the hose from the grommet in the valve cover. That is not easy to get to as it is mostly under the manifold.

Yep, it's a big joke how Ford put that into the valve cover. It just flops around in there.

On my motors that fitting hits the bottom of the intake manifold before it'll come out, but I can see where it could, and where it could be a major PITA to re-fit it after such an incident.

I've just always carried a spare belt in my truck???

The serpentine system rocks!!
