1940 tailights

Just a thought ? Looking at the rear fenders on a 40 ford p.u. in our shop. And noticing how close they look to a 40s coupe. We were wondering what the pickup would look like. (good or bad) With the 40s coupe taillights mounted on the rear pickups fenders. The taillights that look like sargent stripes. Anyone seen a pickup with car taillights mounted on the fenders ?

it's a personal taste thing. will they fit the curve of fender? if you have the lites, put some 2 sided tape on them, stick to fenders and---stare. good luck, show pics.

Yeah, I had '40 coupe/sedan tailights on my '40 PU before the final overhaul of the whole truck. There's no hole for them, so I made a pattern of the hole that I would need to cut, and slid the "sargant stripe" lights around until I found a spot that looked good. Some of it depends on where the lights are on the coupe/sedan fender, as the PU fender is wider, and has a different curve to the back part. They fit OK, and looked good. I became disinterested in having them there because they tended to leak. Before I got a set, I'd envisioned them being heavy castings with a good seal to the unit. They're stamped and don't have the look of some of the heavier tailights in other models. Pretty, but lightly made. So, when I did the truck over I welded patches in, and used '32 tailights off the brackets that are mounted on both sides of the bed for those lights. Another aftermarker product of Drake's.
