ive got a 78-f150 with a 4.9 and i want a little more power out of. i was thinking a new exhaust with the newer exhaust manifold, either a 2bbl adapter plate or a 4bb intake and possibly a cam. is the 4bbl option actually worth it? alot of people say these motors are easy to over carb. , any sugestions for the cam? i want to keep most the power in the lower-mid rpm range as this truck will see alot of action in the mud.
As for the 4bbl option, it is worth it, but get the 390 holley, this is just about perfect for a 300.
Actually, the 2bbl would be a little better, if you were going to stay stock, but since you are going to do a cam swap and EFI exhaust manifolds, go with the 390CFM holley.
Putting on a smallblock v8 600 cfm carb would kill this engine, unless it was extremely modified.
