I had to put a new battery in my truck today. Big deal, you say? My truck was built on 06/17/96 and it was the ORIGINAL Motorcraft battery. That's 14 years & 7 months! I've never heard of any battery lasting so long. Can anybody top that for battery life?

Oldest batteries i've ever had made it to just over 10 years!

The current 2 in my F250 Diesel are 8 years old now, still cranking that 7.3 like they did brand new!

 

I've had the original battery last much longer than expected, but no where close to 14 years. I think today's batteries are junk, and Interstates being among the worse. There pro-rate system sucks too, I think they "gave" me #2 or $3 off the replacement of a year or two old battery. Had I known that at the time there wouldn't have been another of their batteries put in the truck. I always put the biggest battery that will fit and think that does help with how long they last.

 

8 Years is very good on a diesel-they're hard on batteries, even with 2 in there.

 

Man, did you replace it with a Motorcraft Battery?

 

I had to replace the original motorcraft battery in my '94 Lightning in 2008. So I tied you. It wasn't totally gone, just starting to crank slow on the colder days.

 

I have one that is 12 years old in my Mercedes.

Did you keep a battery maintainer on it?

Ive noticed they usually double the life of a battery, especially if its not driven every day. I keep them on all the tractors.

 

Damm right I did! It wasn't totally dead either, but some dummy (me) left the dome light on for 2 days. I charged it back up & it started, but it was cranking pretty slow-I decided it was time for a new one

 

I would have demanded a warranty replacement from Motorcraft.

 

I had an 86 F350 that the battery lasted 11 years and 100k

 

My grandfather has a windstar with the 65 battery in it and it was on the original for 11 years, just started cranking slowly this past winter so I replaced it.

I used to sell batteries thru AAA roadside when i did towing and lemme tell you whatt he best are interstates or motorcrafts, they last the longest next to the OEM toyota/honda (same maker) and the delcos all were good. Junk was exide, walmart or any other off brand.

Also you get what you pay for, cheaper the battery shorter time it lasts. Most of the time the reason batts die is people leave stuff on. You would be shocked how many will listen to the radio or use the light and not even have a clue the batts getting drained.

 

The original 1984 Motorcraft battery in my Ranger lasted until 2000.
I have had several other Motorcraft batteries last well over 10 years......IMO, they are the best batteries out there.

 

Are you kidding. interstates in the past 10 years are about as good as a used battery. they are JUNK
