86 351w carb question

I need help identifying this part and what purpose it has on my 86 351w HO 4 barrel carb. It is a small vaccum actuated plumber looking thing that is right in front of the throttle linkage. has a bolt and nut for adjustment, I would guess. what is the purpose of this....right now i don't have this hooked up, will the engine run better with it hooked up and operating, and what kind of vaccum does it take? full vacuum or ported? thanks, Ben

does the engine still kickdown a gear when you floor it? I think the vaccuum thing might have something to do for that.

That would be a throttle kicker that keeps the throttle from closing too tight when you let off the throttle to keep from backfiring on deceleration with the A.I.R. pump. It's plumbed thru' a delay valve that applies vacuum for a short time when you let off the gas and then bleeds off to let the throttle return to idle. Check your vacuum diagram.
Hope this helps.

The throttle kicker also bumps up the idle speed when the A/C compressor clutch kicks on and also when the battery is low/or you are drawing alot of electrical current to help out the alternator with charging. It is nice to have while at traffic lights with the A/C on.
