Hey guys, I have a 1978 f100 lariat with factory a/c and i was leaking anti freeze all over my passenger floor board. First thing i did was replace the heater core. The old one didnt appear to have any real physical issue although looking greenish and old. I test drove it and it drove ok the engine sounded a bit different as if the carb needed to be adjusted, and about 30 minutes into it started sending antifreeze smoke or steam out of the vents.
I'm not sure if this was some antifreeze that spilled off onto the engine and everything close to it just kinda burned off or if the heater hoses have something to do with it. any insight on this would be much appreciated. thanks again
It's about got to be one or the other, or the new core leaks.......... If it dpesnt clear up quickly I'd make sure you got the hose clamps tight then look for a leak or residual antifreeze left by the original core. Just another thought..............did you replace the heater hoses as well? sometimes the old hard ones wont seal up properly when you tighten the clamp.
anti freeze on your heater core seems ther most likely suspect...if your hoses aren't split and hooked up correctly there may be some leftover from the spill in the heater box otherwise you mayb have lost another core...sometimes there bad even new..
thanks guys, no i didnt replace the hoses as well which looking back seems like the obvious thing to do lol i'll put them on tomorrow. and i really hope i didnt lose this one it wasn't exactly a fun process.
