I have a 1978 ford f250 351m 4 speed 4x4 Well i want to put a arb locker in my front dana 60 axle. my question is what gear ratio is my front axle. What i do know it is a 30 spline becuase i put mm lock out hubs on it.
Most are 3.53/54:1 but you have to read the tag or better yet, pull the cover and count the teeth. You'll reuse your gears anyway, unless your wanting to change the ratio. In that case it doesn't matter. You're right about the spline count but that is on the outers. Mine has 35 spline at the locker.
first look at the front cover there should be a mall metal tag attached by a bolt...if theres not one lock the hubs, jack up one side, mark the pinion and housing in relation to each other, rotate tire one turn count pinion rotation multiply by 2...that'll get you close...then check availible gears ratios for your axle then you should be figuring it out...
If you pull the cover the ring gear will have the number of teeth scribed into it; i.e. a 4110 means 41 teeth on the ring gear and 10 on the pinion or a 4.10 ratio.
My Dana 60 front has 35 spline inner axles too for what it's worth.
Just pull the cover and look on the edge of the ring gear. Its printed right on it. Its either 354 or 410. Only the outer stub shafts are 30 spline. The inners are 35 spline
