I have a 1989 f250 custom with the 302 engine and 5speed tranny..its a 4wd also..its the light duty f250 (which seems to be a rare verson).. i broke the the rear yoke off the rear axle..i cant find it at any junkyards or online.. the code on the door says its a b5 axle? i also think its a 10.25 rear end with 4.10 gears? Does that sound right?...any places where i can get the yoke would be great! thank you!
My light duty 87 F250 2wd had a 10.25" semi floating rear axle. You can tell the semi floating rear diff from the full floater by the absence of the big center hubs that stick out past the wheel mounting surface.
Did you break the yoke or the pinion gear? How did you break it????
I might be wrong. But I believe the yoke should be the same on any F250 or F350 that's the same age.
it doesnt have the hubs on the rear axle..so thats the semi floating. and i just broke the yoke...(well i hope thats all that broke)...i was trying to pull a friend out of a ditch and tires caught pavement.
welcome to FTE.
you have a 5300 lb sterling semi-floating 10.25 axle with 4.10 gears in your truck.
depending on what broke, it could be an easy fix, or a hard one. did just the yoke break, or did the pinion break?
if just the yoke broke, you will still see the pinion nut on the front of the rear. if the nut is gone, you are looking at a big job. it will be cheaper to just replace the rear.

how do they know that i need the light duty yoke? does it matter? cause my friend has a f250 2wd with the 460. i looked at the nut size on his yoke and it was way bigger than the inch 1/8th nut on my truck.. Does the nut size matter? will the yoke fit my truck with the nut from my truck? Thanks for all the help everyone. im finally getting some progress in finding this stinking little part.
your freind should have the full floater rear in his truck, which has larger parts.
the best bet is to take your yoke with you and compair them. also ask when you call if it is the large or small yoke.
but you can also just change the whole rear and put a full floater in it, and get the heavier rear out of the deal if you can find one with the proper 4.10 gear ratio.

Reason: fixing a typo
im only 18 and still in school..i kinda want this to be a cheap and quick fix...but finding that part proves to be the challenge..i think my yoke is a 32 spline.. does that sound right? if so could i just take the dimensions off the yoke and order it online?
A pull-your-part type junkyard will have the total rear end for around $100 drum to drum.
ON half price weekends, they hold twice per year, it is well; 1/2 price.
A person with an old Ford needs to become a friend of the discount junk yards.
A new yoke could cost more than a total rear end. Then, if required, set-up and install is more $$$.
