There is a 1/8 NPT plug right above the filter to tap into oil temp.

Does that help?

What does the sender look like?

"sender" refers to the portion that screws into the testing port.

Also, be sure your ready to screw the sender in once you pull the plug

You could use your oil temp gauge for trans temp as well. You would just have to pick up the right switch and a sending unit for the trans temp. Then you could monitor either one with the same gauge. I think some of the auto parts stores sell the 1/8npt sending units.

Congrats on the gauges Jesse, very important to monitor the vitals. As per your signature, "Drive like I stole her" I would consider a trans temp gauge and sender too like Grant and the guys mentioned, our trannies can heat up pretty quick depending on load and ambiant temps..

How do you hook that up and what all would be needed. Not trying to hijack just wondering. I already have the trans temp, and would like to hook it up for the oil temp as well.

I think it would be a three way toggle switch but not for sure. Just take your meter to radio shack. In one direction you would have continuity from the wire to the gauge to the trans. temp wire. The other direction would have continuity from the wire to the gauge to the oil temp. So basically you are just running the three wires to the switch and hooking them up accordingly.

I'm sure a local parts store can get a temp sender if not in stock. I'm not sure what the oil temp sender size is but the transmission one should be something like this one (1/8 npt): Auto Meter 2258 Sending Unit Temp - eBay (item 300512691768 end time Feb-06-11 14:55:39 PST)

You will need a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch for this. It can be a toggle or rotary switch, doesn't matter. You hook up one sender to A and another sender to B. Then you hook the COM wire to the gauge. This way when you switch it will break the signal and then make the signal to the other sender. Works pretty slick as long as the senders are the same temp rating as the gauge (100-250 or what ever set-up you are using)

Here is the switch I used on my trans temp senders to measure trans temp, and post cooler temp.

I decided to do a diagram showing how simple it really is to do this, so take a look below. I put a standard SPDT switch from Radio Shack on the diagram too. Should be something easily found. Carling also makes a SPDT rocker switch for those of you that use them, or are planning on installing an F-650 dash.

You are not limited to a two sender set-up. You can get other switches with multiple contacts. I mentioned a rotary switch previously, they work well when running more than three senders to one gauge. I decided to just use the SPDT toggle as it fit better in my pod location.
