I've disassembled the old 302 from truck and I was wondering what if anything I could get by selling the remaining good parts from it. Aside from the block being bad, everything else is still good. It still ran OK before I pulled it.
I know this question may be area dependent but instead of just scrapping it, I'd like to make a few bucks selling the parts in my area. If I could get another good block for cheap, I could even build another good engine if and when my finances improve.
Any advice or should I just haul it all off to the scrap yard?
what year probably dont matter much if the blocks no good. how many miles? if its a roller engine someone on ebay might give you a couple bucks for the lifters. cam- not much market there. pistons and rods- maybe if someones rebuilding on a budget if the skirts arent shot they could get new rings, probably can get 50. bucks on ebay. i would clean up the old stuff and put her on ebay. oh the heads they make good boat anchors!
Yes it's a roller cam. The internals are in surprisingly good shape for having nearly 216K. The cylinders still had honing marks that were still visible.
I was surprised none of the valves were burned on the heads and there wasn't that much carbon built up the surface. I remember pulling Ford engines apart with barely over 100K on them in the early 80's and there would always be a few burned valves and the carbon would really thick.
yep they are probably e7te heads. i mean they are not junk but just not a big market, too much competition from the gt40 p heads from explorers or gt 40 heads that are so sought after when building a 5.0 . I actually had a set of e7's on craigslist for 50 bucks and never had so much as an offer. good luck on your parting out!
In the US, parts are always worth more than assembled machines. If you have the space to keep the pieces for a while i would say disassemble that engine and get some money selling the parts on E-bay and Craiglist, good luck!.
Yes, the engine is completely apart. I do have some room to store them. I'll have to be patient with the flakes at CL. I think we have more flakes in our area than Kelloggs does.
Like i said before , keep the 94 F4TE roller cam , lifters and roller accsories , the 94 cam is a good upgrade over the 92-93 cam , the F4TE cam with a set of 1.72 ratio rockes is a good set up for the 302.....Lew
I could keep the cam as a spare. It still looked great and doesn't show much wear despite the mileage. I did have a problem with pulling the old lifters from the old block. They just would not pull out. I had to knock them down into the block to get them out.
What about the rest of the truck, or you putting a new motor in it? As for the good parts off the motor, might be worth just keeping or scrapping them than to deal with.....the flakes.
