Question How do you get the fuel filter off??

Guys...I have a '99 Ranger. I assume I need a special tool to change the fuel filter. What is this tool called? Can I borrow one from AutoZone or something?

There is a tool that you will neem to depress the clip in the fuel line. A part store should have it, if not snap on & mac tools have it.

oriley's, autozone, pep boys, etc ought to have it. They pop over the fuel line and you push them in to free the connection. The inserts are plastic or metal. I recommend the metal. They last longer and are more effective. Insert tools cost about $6 for plastic, maybe $10 for metal. I bought the plastic first and now have the metal version as well. Get the metal one. IMO.

How do you get the fuel filter off??

I picked one up from NAPA this weekend. I got the metal one. List price was $30. But it was the only one they had. The cheaper one was sold out. So I got it anyway and they gave me a little discount.

Got the fuel filter changed with it just fine. Thanks for the help guys.

WXboy, what concerned me was breaking a plastic tool off inside the connection and then having to deal with that. your $$ were well spent.
