At Christmas had truck fire once, then clunk. after a couple of start atttemps it ran, but very rough and lots of smoke.
Timing seamd to be all over the place, so though IP failure. Checked all injectors return lines etc- all good.
Installed a Pensacola rebuilt IP today, timing cover not moved, still same sysmtoms, but pulse timing is showing 19.5 ATDC.
Is it likely that I've got a broken cam or IP gear??? Any previous experiances would be helpful!
Whats the air filter look like? A clogged will cause issues. Also check the CDR, though I don't know if it would cause such a situation.
Was this just after starting? or after idling/warmed up? Perhaps it just needed to run longer to flush any air out of the system and bring the cylinders up to temp.
Running without air cleaner at moment- parked in front of my garage. Pretty sure its not air as the pusle timing adapter is steady at the 19.5 ATDC and about 800 rpm cold advance on. Really looks like a gear or valve issue I'm thinking.
is the engine fully up to operating temp?
did you wait for a bit? as i understand the timing will be all over the place for a little bit.
im still waiting for my crank sensor. so i can't offer any first hand experience yet.just what iv read that can cause your symptoms.
pulse method i see,
why are you not reading the timing @ 2k rpm?
(its been suggested to even time the 7.3l at 2k rpm when using the lumy probe as well, unlike on the 6,9l fyi.)
I seams to rough to me at idle, and a lot of smoke-didn't want to run it up to 2000 like that, but may be worth a try alright. Really I've just got to quit dreaming and do a compression test- remove valve covers, front gear covers too see what went "clunk" Xmas eve.
The old pump and the new were 1/2 line rotated to the pass side, and always ran good until the fateful non start event. Will have to do a compression test- the sudden stopage originally seamed like a hydraulic lock, but oil and fluid levels normal- was after an overnight heay rain! What confuses me is it does run and start OK just smokes like a freight train. Will try to isolate rough running to one cylinder !
