soon to be f250 v10 owner
I will be picking up a 01 f250 ext cab v10 on tuesday put money down on it last week and will be closing the deal on tues. I have looked over the truck and driven it twice each time spending about 30-45mins really giving it a good look and listen too. The only thing i found was that it needed new front brake rotors and there was a small exhaust leak coming from the manifold, which the dealer said was a broken stud which will be fixed before pick up. Now my question is with all the spark plug blow out controversy i am reading and hearing should i do anything with the plugs whether it be re-torque, replace, etc. The truck has 74,292 miles on it and it runs and drives well i just dont know if theres anything preventitive i should do at this mileage. Or should i just go with the motto "if it aint broke dont fix it" I am pretty excited and cant wait til tues, i have already learned tons from this site and i am sure i will learn alot more in the future. Heres some pics of the truck

I have a truck exactly like the one your showing in the pictures. I bought it about 2 years ago. I replaced all the plugs myself with information I found on this forum and torqued them down. I did not replace any of the cops or boots. Truck has ran good since then with no problems. I also changed all of the fluids over to synthetic at the same time. Just a personal preverance. Mine had around 90,000 miles when I got it. It has been a great truck so far.

Nice truck, looks like it was well taken care of. I bought a '99 F-250 with the V10 in June 2010. I would definately suggest new plugs - motorcraft. I have heard these motors are picky about that stuff. Make sure you torque the new plugs, I talked to two mechanics at local Ford dealers and they said torque the plugs to 20ft/lb or 240in/lb and you won't have a problem. They said any less and the plugs can back out causing them to move up and down in the head stressing the aluminum threads until failure. I also used anti-seize on the threads and cleaned out the threaded ports with throttle body cleaner. Have fun it's a tedious job, just don't get in a hurry. My truck had 123,000 miles on it with and the orignal plugs were in there pretty tight. I used a breaker bar with slow steady pressure to free them up and had no issues.

Nice truck! As others have said I would change plugs and boots and all the fluids. Also I believe it was the 2001 model that had some kind of issue with a diode in the transmission causing failure. Might check into that and see if it has been changed or needs to be changed. Other than that just grin and enjoy it!
