My Buddy Has a 95 F250 4x4 with a straight axle swap 15 inches of lift 4.10s with a locker in the rear. The Truck has a 460 with that crappy auto overdrive trans the e40d. He has blowen the tranny twice now and weve had enough of the in and out routine so weve decided to swap in a a 70s 4 speed with a overdrive unit and we need some info on how to trick the computer into thinking that theres a auto trans there. Any info would help greatley
You would need a bout a 700 ohms(has to be between 660-807 ohms) resistor to and put it inbetween the GRY/R wire and the LB/Y wire that would go to the MLPS off the E4OD.
Than use the WHT/PINK wire with the Red/LT blue wire hooked together to make the starter relay work, or hooked to a clutch switch, so only starts when the clutch is pushed in.
than use the P/Oand the BK/PK for the reverse light switch on the manual trans..
You will still get tranny codes in the computer, but It should run and drive just fine.
From what I've read in here, you just leave the MLPS in neutral and wire it up out of the way. The computer will throw a couple of codes but it won't affect the driveability at all.
It shouldn't throw the CEL. At least, others here who have done this swap claim it doesn't. If yours is, I would pull the codes and see what else is wrong.
There are a lot of sensors in the E4OD so it will throw a pile of codes and may flash the light at you, the permanent solution to all that is to get a 7.5L EEC for a truck with a C6 or manual transmission and swap it in.
