I have a set of full length headers that I want to install but I need to figure out what I can do with the EGR system first. My truck is a 96 F150 4x4 with a 351W. The headers I have do not have a port to reconnect the EGR tube. My EGR system doesn't work anyways so I would like to remove it. I can make a block off plate no problem but I know I need to do something with the pressure differental sensor the connects to the EGR tube so I don't set a MIL light.
Is it only possible to do it if you get a special tune or can I just swap in another ECM from another vehicle that doesnt have that sensor? I'm guesing a tune would be better as I also neet to remove the after CAT o2 sensor as well.
You can't remove the EGR system on this truck without setting a code, so the only options you have are to install a fully functional EGR system or get a tuner and disable it in the computer.
O.K. to block off the E.G.R. port with a piece of steel. I have 4 vehicles, and all have the E.G.R. port blocked. No problems. Yes, the code will happen, but i ignore it. I put hedders on the Ranger without the E.G.R. tube. Kept the O2 sensor though.
