Funny Noise
After a somewhat snowy winter here in VA I am running down my list of items to R&R on my 89 4X4 F250 351 Auto. I had the opportunity to use the 4X4 system several times this winter. I have begun to notice a new noise coming from the front end area. The noise is like a squeak but it has rhythm, meaning that as the wheels turn faster the squeak increases. It happens in 2X4 and 4X4, under load, throttle, more so. I was thinking that it might be a u-joint, but with mine there are no grease fittings on them. Any suggestions? If it is u-joints how hard are they to change? What should I be looking for to diagnois it?

To change the u-joints in the axle (there are 3 if you have TTB) you will need to pull the whole hub assembly and rotor off each side, you can slide the drivers side out, i'm not quite sure about the other side, there may be a c-clip.
If you have manual hubs and you get the squeak when they are in the free position it is most likely your wheel bearings about to go, you will want to replace them if you do you u-joints.
